Office of the Ombudsman for Children

The Ombudsman for Equality monitors the compliance with the Act on Equality between Women and Men and in particular with the ban on discrimination and discriminatory job advertising.

The Ombudsman promotes by means of initiatives, advice and instructions the implementation of the purpose of the Act and monitors the implementation of gender equality in different sectors in society.

The Ombudsman for Children shall promote the implementation of the interests and rights of the child. This work takes place in cooperation with other authorities and relevant non-governmental organisations and other actors in the field.

The activities of the Ombudsman for Children are based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Ombudsman for Children does not decide on matters regarding the taking into care and guardianship of individual children.
