Daily sickness allowance payments are provided for by the health insurance legislation.

The accident insurance legislation covers compensation for loss of earnings due to workplace accidents or occupational disease for employees and farmers.

Disability and long-term sickness benefits are covered by legislation on disability benefits.

Income security for people undergoing rehabilitation is covered by legislation on the Social Insurance Institution's rehabilitation benefits and occupational pensions.

Families with children

Maternity, paternity and parental allowances are covered by legislation on health insurance.

Legislation on child home care and private care allowance provides for children's home care costs, the care supplement and private care allowance.

Child benefit, maternity allowance and child maintenance allowance are each provided by respective legislation. 

Studying

Study allowance, housing supplement and state guaranteed student loans are covered by legislation on financial aid to students.

The adult education allowance is included in legislation on adult education, and legislation on the financing of training covers the provision of grants for vocational qualifications.

Unemployment

Legislation on unemployment security covers the earnings related unemployment benefit, basic benefit and training allowance and labour market subsidy. Separate legislation on public employment services covers training. Rehabilitative employment is dealt with by its own legislation.

Pensions

Pension security is covered by a range of occupational pension legislation, in which separate laws cover pensions for employees, entrepreneurs, farmers, mariners, civil servants, municipal and church employees. In addition there is the national pension act. Legislation on pensions for front-line soldiers and on the special allowance for immigrants offers further pension security.

Housing

Housing allowance is covered by legislation on housing allowance and on housing allowance for pension recipients.

Conscripts

Legislation on the conscripts allowance stipulates payments to people in military service or civil alternative service and their families.
