At the moment swine flu does not occur in Finland. The authorities are monitoring closely the swine flu development.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the National Institute for Health and Welfare cooperate closely with the EU Commission and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). EU officials coordinate Member State actions and distribute up-to-date information.

In 2006 the MSAH published a National Preparedness Plan for an Influenza Pandemic.

All the hospital districts have prepared their own preparedness plans on the basis of the national plan. The State Provincial Offices coordinate the drafting of regional plans.

The MSAH has issued instructions on preparedness for an A(H1N1)v flu epidemic to the State Provincial Offices, hospital districts, educational authorities and places of education, as well as to municipal day care authorities and day care units.

The Ministry has initiated a review of the authorities' actions during the first wave of the swine flu epidemic. The aim is to assess the success of the measures to prevent the pandemic.
